Theme of the Month: Prints from the Shore

Theme of the Month: Prints from the Shore

This month with summer in full swing we’ve been reflecting on the beach not as a picture-perfect postcard, but as a source of mood, memory, and creative interpretation. The coast has always inspired artists, not for its stillness, but for its motion, shifting tides, changing light, and the soft blur between sea and sky

Here in Exmouth, we’re lucky to have the shoreline on our doorstep. It’s more than a backdrop, it’s a muse. This month, we explored how local artists reimagine the coast through abstract forms, layered textures, and softened palettes that speak to the feeling of being by the water. From tranquil impressions to dynamic interpretations, the work shared has been as varied and expressive as the coast itself.

We were thrilled to feature four talented local artists who each brought a unique approach to the theme:

We began our coastal journey with the bold, expressive work of Amanda Cheyne. Printed right here in our studio, Mandy's abstracted seascapes channel the energy of the Devon shoreline through textured layers and soft, drifting forms. Her work captures the beach as a living, breathing experience, fluid, shifting, and deeply atmospheric.

Local artist Erica Ankers brought a beautifully delicate perspective to the coast. Her signature style, soft palettes and flowing lines translates the rhythm of the landscape into meditative, stunning pieces. Her work evokes those tranquil, reflective moments we all find by the sea.

Homecoming by Devon-based artist Jon White offered a powerful, contemporary interpretation of the seascape. Full of memory and movement, the piece captures the essence of returning, physically or emotionally, to the calming presence of the ocean.

In Seascape Serenade, Exmouth local Paul Stretton-Stephens uses intentional camera movement to transform a familiar Devon beach into a tranquil, painterly impression. Blending soft blues, greens, and golden tones, his photograph feels like a breath held at sunset, still, soulful, and full of quiet possibility.

We’re so proud to celebrate the work of these local artists, and grateful to everyone who explored the coast with us this month. While this themed feature may be winding down, our connection to the shoreline never really fades. If you’ve been working on your own beach-inspired piece, we’d love to see it, so keep sharing your creations with us. Stay tuned for next month's theme!
