Hello fellow creatives! My name is Ben and I am the new business administration assistant at Grace's Giclée Art Print Shop.
I'm looking forward to working with you all, and hopefully to get to know some of our more regular customers.
Last year, I graduated with a 1st from Brunel University London for a Creative Writing degree after three years of sitting in front of a laptop, head in hands, staring at a blank page for 70% of the time. Maybe I'm being harsh on myself; 65%. Traditionally I work on prose and scripts for film and TV, but recently, I have been exploring how writing and art could work together to make something more. This I have done through collage and visual poetry, where the text is accompanied by a specific artwork or a home-made image. For my visual poetry, I typically use current editions of different newspapers of the day, and I construct a panorama of the day's events, aiming for an overarching theme to the work.
I have several stories in the works which I intend to send out to various literary journals for publication. Furthermore, I write a weekly piece of ekphrasis — a piece of fiction written in response to a particular artwork. This allows me to develop my own unique interpretation of a certain painting. These stories can be based on the emotion that the art makes me feel, or a literal interpretation of what is happening within the frame, putting together clues in order to put together a coherent story.
This has stemmed from a far longer interest in the arts more generally. It has always fascinated me how people choose to express themselves, especially the wide range of modes that have developed to cater to the various forms people have chosen to express themselves. That is why when the opportunity to use my writing skills in a creative environment, while helping other creatives make money off their own passion, I jumped at the chance to join the business. As I see all of you producing such great work, it never fails to give me the motivation to go and produce my own art when I get home in the evenings.
My hobbies include a love for walking and geocaching in the countryside, as well as an unhealthy obsession with books of all kinds, both fiction and non-fiction —an obsession which I hope will never ebb.
I will look forward to helping you all gain success in your creative ventures and with Grace's mentoring, your friendly neighbourhood business administration assistant is ready to take on all comers.
